Person Of Interest Questioned Following Rape Near Red Line Stop

(STMW) -- Chicago Police are questioning a person of interest in connection with the sexual assault of a woman early Saturday after she got off a Red Line train in the North Side Rogers Park neighborhood.

The person turned himself in to detectives at 11 a.m. Monday, the morning after police released surveillance photos of the suspect, according to a Chicago Police source.

The man was on the train with the 25-year-old woman about 4:40 a.m. and trailed her when she got off at the Red Line Jarvis stop, according to the community alert issued by Area North detectives.

While she walked in the 1400 block of West Jarvis, he grabbed her from behind, showed a handgun and forced her into a secluded area where he robbed and assaulted her, police said.

He is described as a 5-foot-8 black man between 25 and 35 years old and weighing between 165 and 200 pounds. He was wearing a black winter jacket and knit hat at the time of the attack, police said.

Anyone with information should call detectives at (312) 744-8261.
