Teen Charged With Sexually Assaulting CSU Student

(STMW) -- A 17-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a sexual assault of a Chicago State University student on Wednesday.

The teen is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault with a weapon, aggravated armed kidnapping and armed robbery, police said in a statement issued Saturday evening. He is being charged as an adult but his name was not immediately available.

About 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, a 24-year-old woman was walking to her car when a male came up behind her at 98th and Indiana and displayed a knife, Calumet District police said. A source said the woman is pregnant.

He forced her to drive a short distance into an alley, where he sexually assaulted and robbed her, police said. He then locked the woman in the trunk of her car and ran away.

The assault happened near the Chicago State University campus, where the woman is a student, a spokesman said. The university issued a community safety alert warning students about the attack and advised students to be cautious both on and off campus.

Police arrested the teen and charged him. The university provided police with surveillance footage and helped locate possible witnesses to the attack, police said.
