Man Killed In Wauconda Township Crash

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was killed in a crash late Christmas Eve in north suburban Wauconda Township.

The driver of a Ford Taurus lost control shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday while traveling east on Route 120 near Fisher Road, according to Lake County sheriff's office Sgt. Christopher Covelli.

The car slid sideways into oncoming traffic and was struck on the passenger side by a Nissan Rogue SUV, Covelli said.

There was up to 3 feet of intrusion into the four-door car, according to the Wauconda Fire District.

The driver of the car, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, was pinned inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. His identity was not immediately released, pending notification of his family. An autopsy was being scheduled by the Lake County coroner's office.

The 58-year-old McHenry man driving the SUV was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, authorities said.

Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit was investigating the crash.
