Person Fatally Struck By Metra Train In Elmwood Park

(STMW) -- A person was struck and killed by a Metra train in northwest suburban Elmwood Park on Friday afternoon.

Milwaukee District-West Train 2225 struck a pedestrian at 4:30 p.m. near 73rd Avenue, according to Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.

The Cook County medical examiner's office said it was sending an investigator to Elmwood Park, but more details about the person struck were not immediately available.

Trains on the MD-W and North Central lines were halted until about 6 p.m. as crews cleared the scene. "Extensive" delays of up to 90 minutes were expected to carry on through the evening, Gillis said.

Elmwood Park police could not immediately be reached for more details.
