Perfect Time To Remember Reporter's Epic Love, Spot-On Take For Kris Bryant In June 2013

(CBS) On June 6, 2013, the Cubs selected Kris Bryant out of the University of San Diego with the second pick in the MLB amateur draft.

The following day, 670 The Score had San Diego Union-Tribune reporter/columnist Kevin Acee on its midday show. Acee had covered Bryant and had an up-close look at him. Acee also had grandiose, lofty praise for Bryant that at the time may have been perceived as over the top.

"I'm a married man," Acee said back then. "It's all good, I don't need to defend myself here. I wanted to go home with the kid."

As we look back now -- a day after Bryant became the first player in the modern era to have three homers and two doubles in a game -- it's hard hard not to chuckle at Acee's radio hit and give him credit. He was dead on in what Bryant could become.

Listen to the notable part of the segment below. It's radio gold.
