Pedestrian Struck, Killed In Austin Hit-And-Run

(STMW) -- A man was struck by an SUV and killed early Saturday three blocks from his home in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

Artiz McBride, 20, was struck by the SUV while he was crossing the street about 12:45 a.m. in the 0 – 100 block of South Central Avenue, authorities said.

The SUV then sped away, police said.

McBride, of the 0 – 100 block of North Long Avenue, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 2:23 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy performed Saturday found McBride died of multiple injuries he suffered when he was struck by the vehicle and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.

No one is in custody as the police Major Accidents Investigation Unit investigates.
