Pedestrian Killed By Freight Train In Blue Island

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A pedestrian was fatally struck by a freight train early Wednesday in south suburban Blue Island.

About 3:30 a.m., a CSX train traveling from Chicago to Philadelphia struck a pedestrian walking on the railroad tracks at 127th Street in Blue Island, according to a statement from a CSX spokesperson.

The pedestrian was killed, according to the statement.

Train traffic in the area was suspended while authorities completed their investigation. Normal operations resumed about 7:15 a.m.

"CSX extends its sympathies to all involved in this morning's tragic accident in Blue Island," according to the statement.
