Patrick Kane Investigation: What Do We Know?

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police in Patrick Kane's hometown confirmed on Friday that they are conducting an investigation into an incident that occurred at the Chicago Blackhawks star's home in suburban Buffalo.

So, what exactly do we know about the case?

It is the first official public statement from authorities on the matter, which was first reported by the Buffalo News early Thursday.

In the statement, Police Chief Gregory Wickett provided a few other facts:

  • The incident happened over the past weekend. He would not specify a day or time.
  • The department is collecting information and awaiting results of forensic testing. He did not elaborate on the type of tests.
  • Wickett would not say if Kane was cooperating with police.

Kane owns a large, lakefront home in the town of Hamburg. He grew up in the Buffalo area.

Officially, investigators have provided no other details, and Wickett told the assembled media that he would have no further comment at this point in the investigation.

Law enforcement sources have told CBS affiliate WIVB-TV and the Buffalo News that the investigation involves a sexual assault accusation against Kane. The woman went to a hospital and tests using a rape kit were performed, sources told the newspaper.

Several social media postings reported that Kane was at bars and restaurants on Saturday night.

Both the NHL and Chicago Blackhawks have said that they have been informed of the investigation, but have no further comment.
