Passenger Charged In Crash That Killed Pedestrian

CHICAGO (STMW) -- The passenger in a car that lost control and fatally struck a man early Sunday on the South Side has been charged with reckless homicide.

Jason Rayford, 30, is charged with reckless homicide and misdemeanor domestic battery, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

Rayford was the passenger in a vehicle that fatally struck 24-year-old Eddie Fuentes about 3:10 a.m. Sunday in the 5300 block of South Western, authorities said.

Rayford began fighting with the woman driving the vehicle and striking her, then pulled on the steering wheel, causing her to lose control and strike the pedestrian, police said.

Fuentes was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 8:19 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Rayford, of the 11300 block of South Stewart, is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
