Parking Ticket Scofflaws May Get Amnesty In Chicago

(CBS) -- There's a bit of good news in Mayor Emanuel's proposed bad-news budget: amnesty for parking ticket scofflaws.

Under the mayor's plan, which is expected to get City Council approval, motorists who have been ticketed would pay the amount they owe with no added penalties for late payment.

Motorists would also be able to select payment plan options online.

Here's the catch: You've only got a short six-week window of Nov. 1 to Dec. 15 to cut the deal with City Hall.

Past-due tickets can become cutthroat in Chicago. Motorists with multiple overdue tickets may have their vehicles "booted" and rendered immobile.
