Man Shot And Killed At Park Manor Gas Station

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A gas station attendant was shot and killed early Thursday during an apparent argument in the Park Manor neighborhood.

Marwan Mahmoud Sadeq, 45, a father of four, was hanging out with some friends in the parking lot of the Citgo at the corner of Marquette Road and Sate Street around 12;40 a.m., when he was shot in the head.

Police said it appears the shooting stemmed from an argument outside the gas station.

Sadeq was pronounced dead at the scene.

A friend and co-worker said Sadeq emigrated from Yemen a few years ago, because it was so violent there.

"He came over here for a better life. It became … it turns ugly," Ahmed Awadh said. "The guy is a very sweet person. You know, he came over here, he's been here for like one year in Chicago. ... He just worked for his family, you know what I mean?"

Awadh said Sadeq had finished his shift at the gas station around 11 p.m., and left, but came back about an hour later.

"So, like, 'What are you doing here?' you know? He just, he came to use the bathroom, he came back to his car, like 10 minutes, we just heard the gunshots," he said.

Investigators blocked off the entire parking lot outside the gas station after the shooting.

No one was in custody Thursday morning. Area Central detectives were investigating.
