Parent Robbed At Gunpoint Near Lincoln Square Catholic School
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Catholic school in the Lincoln Square neighborhood was placed on lockdown Friday after a school parent was robbed at gunpoint nearby.
Johnny Wilson, 32, of west suburban Aurora, appeared in bond court Sunday charged in the robbery. Cook County Judge Adam Donald Bourgeois set bail for Wilson at $450,000.
Wilson approached a 35-year-old woman just steps from St. Matthias School on the 4900 block of North Claremont Avenue and robbed her with a gun that police later determined was a BB gun, prosecutors said Sunday.
Wilson allegedly took $20 from the woman's pocket and fled.
The robbery happened about 2:40 p.m., a police spokeswoman said.
St. Matthias School was placed on precautionary lockdown on Friday afternoon, according to Chicago Archdiocese spokeswoman Susan Burritt. "The students remained in their classrooms with their teachers until the police gave clearance for dismissal," Burritt said in an email.
