Panhandler Fatally Hit By Car In West Rogers Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A panhandler died Monday after being struck by a car Saturday in the West Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side.

At 4:30 p.m., the 53-year-old man was asking for money in the street at West Peterson and North Lincoln when he was struck by an eastbound Toyota Prius, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

He was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital with pain to his neck and back, where he was pronounced dead two days later at 10:58 p.m., police and the medical examiner's office said. An autopsy Wednesday found that he died from complications of multiple injuries from being struck by a motor vehicle. His name was not released Wednesday.

The driver of the Prius was not cited, police said.
