Palatine Officer Shoots Drug Suspect In Leg

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Palatine police officer shot a suspect as police were conducting a drug investigation in an apartment complex parking lot.

According to a statement from Palatine Police, a 26-year-old suspect refused to exit his vehicle after being told he was under arrest.

While trying to flee, the suspect drove his car toward two officers. The altercation happened in a parking lot in 500 block of North Quentin Road.

One of the officers, a 10-year veteran, fearing for his life, fired his service weapon.

Police said the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle and was located shortly after the incident in the 1400 block of Winslowe Drive in Palatine with a single gun-shot wound to the leg.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Palatine officer directly involved in the incident was also transported to the hospital for observation per department policy and has subsequently been released.
