Palatine Girl, 12, Rewarded For Healthy Recipe: Lunch With First Lady

(CBS) -- She loves to cook, and that passion led a 12-year-old girl from northwest suburban Palatine right to the white house.

CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports.

It was a day Tess Boghossian of Palatine will never forget. She was one of 54 winners of the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge Contest, chosen for her healthier version of Lincoln's Inaugural Soup.

"What they had at his inauguration had a lot of butter in it," she explains.

So what was Boghossian's prize? Lunch with First Lady Michelle Obama, at the White House.

"It was really cool. The First Lady was really nice and inviting," she says.

There was also a surprise appearance by President Obama.

Boghossian also met the White House chef.

And the President said he has a weakness when it comes to snacks: chips and guacamole.

"He loses it," Mrs. Obama told the contest winners.

Incidentally, the secret to making Boghossian's healthy version of Lincoln's Inaugural Soup is quinoa and vegetables. For the recipe, click here.
