CHICAGO (CBS) -- Illinois State Police have closed the outbound lanes of the Kennedy Expressway, after a vehicle was struck by bullets in the Norwood Park neighborhood.

Around 5:10 a.m., someone shot a car headed west on the Kennedy near Sayre Avenue, police said. The driver of the car was not injured, and only the vehicle was struck.

State police said investigators believe the shooter was in a blue Chevy Trailblazer that fled the scene.

Police closed all outbound lanes of the Kennedy at Montrose after the shooting as the shooting is investigated, but the lanes were reopened by about 7:45 a.m.

It was the 26th shooting on Chicago area expressways this year. Last year there were 18. The spike in numbers has prompted police to increase patrols, especially on the Dan Ryan and the Eisenhower expressways.
