3 Killed, 1 Injured In Crash On Eisenhower Expressway
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three people were killed and one person was seriously injured early Tuesday in a crash on the Eisenhower Expressway.
Illinois State Police said, around 2:15 a.m., a black Buick sedan was heading west on the Eisenhower when the driver lost control, and the car went up a grassy embankment west of Western Avenue, and hit a utility pole head-on.
Police said there were four people in the car at the time. A 29-year-old woman and 41-year-old Henry Brooks man died at the scene, according to police and the Cook County Medical examiner's office.
Two other 42-year-old men were taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. One of those men later died, and the other was in serious condition Tuesday morning, police said. As of Tuesday afternoon, Brooks was the only victim whose name had been released.
All outbound lanes of the Eisenhower were closed after the crash. The two left lanes of the expressway were reopened shortly before 6:30 a.m., and the rest of the outbound lanes reopened by about 8:30 a.m.
The cause of the crash was under investigation, but police said alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in the crash. The driver was not wearing a seat belt. It was not immediately clear if any of the three passengers was wearing a seat belt.
