Crash blocks westbound lanes of I-80 near Ottawa

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Several people were injured in a crash that shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 on Wednesday afternoon in LaSalle County.

Illinois State Police said, around 1:30 p.m., multiple vehicles crashed on I-80 near Route 71 in Ottawa. 

Several people were taken to hospitals, but police did not immediately explain how many or how badly they were hurt. At least two SUVs and one pickup truck had been damaged in the crash and could be seen loaded onto flatbed tow trucks. 

All westbound lanes of I-80 were expected to remain closed near milepost 94.5 until at least 4:15 p.m., although traffic was getting by on the right shoulder.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
