Opening Day Looms For Wrigley, Amid Construction Scramble
(CBS) – The Chicago Cubs keep hammering away at the Wrigley Field renovation project, with a little more than two weeks before Opening Day.
CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot pays a visit.
Aerial views from Chopper 2 on Friday showed bleachers still being erected, and a scoreboard yet to be put in place. A plaza -- once the media and player parking lot – was still under construction.
The Cubs have said part of the bleachers will be done by mid-May -- the other half by June.
"We're working fast and furiously to make the ballpark ready for our fans on opening night," Cubs spokesperson Julian Green said in a statement.
Green also says the Cubs will be giving fans a progress update late next week.
Those who call Wrigleyville home have mixed feelings about the construction.
"It's been very loud for a very long time. Living right in front of it has been kind of frustrating," Lauren Taft said. She added: "I'm sure it will look really nice."
The manager of Wrigleyville Sports says construction hasn't hurt business.
"It hasn't really stopped anyone from coming in. If anything it's brought more people around to see what it looks like," Linda Vasquez said.
