Only Two Days Of Early Voting Left For Illinois Primary

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Friday and Saturday are the last days for early voting in Illinois, ahead of the primary election on Tuesday.

Early voting numbers have been average to lackluster, according to election chiefs in Cook and DuPage counties.

DuPage County Election Commission Executive Director Bob Saar said, as of late Friday morning, 8,245 people had voted early, when the normal count would have been "close to 11,000".

Cook County Clerk David Orr said the brutal winter weather has played a small role in the lower early voting numbers, but "obviously this election is not drawing as much attention as most primaries."

What's keeping the early voting numbers from being worse than they are is the heated Republican contest for governor.

Saar said, based on early voting so far, it appears "as if we'll have lower turnout than we have in the past".

However, Saar said it's possible interest will pick up by Tuesday.
