One Dead, One Injured In Greater Grand Crossing Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person died after a traffic crash Tuesday night in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

About 9:20 p.m. a Honda Odyssey minivan heading north on King Drive struck a Chevrolet Cobalt at the intersection of 71st Street, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The Chevrolet's driver, a female whose exact age wasn't immediately known, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, Greer said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the death early Wednesday.

The driver of the Honda, a 19-year-old man, was taken with minor injuries to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center before being released into police custody, Greer said. Charges were pending against him early Wednesday.

The police Major Accidents Investigations Unit is handling the case.
