One Dead After Car Found In Lake Michigan

(CBS) -- The Chicago Fire Department says the body of a man in his late 50s was pulled from a car in Lake Michigan Monday afternoon.

The car was found at the 31st Street Harbor. Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford says people walking near the boat ramp thought they saw submerged car and they called 9-1-1.

When the fire department came they found a car in the lake near the boat ramp.

Langford says one victim was removed from the car: a man whose I-D showed he was born in 1957. He was deceased.

How and why that car ended up in the 31st Street Harbor is still under investigation.

Langford says you have to go through a gate to get to the boat launch and it appears you need a permit to get through the gate.

Chicago police say the car was in the water for at lease four hours.
