On His First Day, Chicago Police Officer Helps Save Man Who Wasn't Breathing

(CBS) -- A Chicago Police officer on his first day on the job helped save someone's life Sunday morning on the Northwest Side.

Field Training Officer Robert Cavaiani and Probationary Police Officer Nicholas Picicci responded to a call in the 3100 block of N. Marmora at 8:20 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The officers found a 62-year-old man unresponsive and not breathing. The officers performed CPR on the man before the Chicago Fire Department arrived to transport him to Community First Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

Hospital staff credited the officers with heling save the man's life, police said.

"This is P.P.O. Picicci's first day on the job and one he won't forget," police said in a statement.
