Olczyk Downplays Latest Rumors But Says Fire Still Burns To Coach

(CBS) In an interview with the McNeil and Spiegel Show on Monday morning, NBC and CSN Chicago color analyst Eddie Olczyk downplayed the latest rumors connecting him to the coaching vacancy in Carolina but added his still is intrigued by returning to the bench.

"I'm not sure what the next couple hours will bring, let alone the next couple of days," Olczyk said. "We're all day to day in the big picture, let's just remember that.

"I'm not sure where all these rumors and speculation has started. I love the game. I loved when I was coaching in Pittsburgh. I loved the teaching aspect of it. So I'm not sure what's going to take place in the next little while. I love working for the Blackhawks. I love doing games with the great Pat Foley. I love working with two Hall of Famers -- Pat Foley and Doc Emrick.

"I'm not sure where anything's going. I love what I'm doing. I'm not out soliciting.

"People know me, that I do have the passion for the game and to teach and to be a part of it. The chair I sit in is very comfortable. I know my family is content right now and happy, and to me that's the most important thing."

Asked if he had unfinished business after his exit from Pittsburgh not even halfway through the 2005-'06 season, Olczyk said, "I don't think there's any doubt."

Olczyk is a former teammate of Carolina general manager Ron Francis, which is certainly part of the reason his name has been connected to the Carolina opening.
