Officials Conducting Arson Investigation After Post Office Vans Burned
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Federal authorities were reviewing surveillance camera footage as part of an arson investigation, after to U.S. Postal Service vans were set ablaze Monday night.
WBBM Newsradio's Steve Miller reports the two vans caught fire around 9:30 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the postal facility in the 6500 block of North Lincoln in north suburban Lincolnwood.
"We suspect it is arson, but of course it is under investigation - and we have to look at all avenues in this case," said U.S. Postal Inspection Service spokeswoman Julie Kenney.
One van sustained severe damage. The other was not as badly burned.
:It looks like one of the vehicles was set on fire, and the fire spread to the other vehicle," Kenney said.
A Lincolnwood Fire Department lieutenant said and the heat from the fire was so intense, it broke a window in the postal facility where the vans were parked.
Kenney said mo mail was damaged.
