Officials: 300K Fans Celebrated Cubs' Pennant Win Outside Wrigley

CHICAGO -- About 300,000 Chicago Cubs fans took to the streets outside Wrigley Field from Saturday night into Sunday to celebrate the team's first National League Championship since 1945, city officials estimate.

"While the Cubs made the city proud with their pennant win, fans and residents made the city equally as proud by celebrating safely and respecting the surrounding community after the game," said Rich Guidice, first deputy director of the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications.

Six people were arrested on misdemeanor charges of unlawful ticket sales, traffic obstruction, storage of goods on the public way, disorderly conduct, reckless conduct and resisting arrest, according to Chicago Police. Nine people were taken to hospitals.

A few drones were spotted around the park during and after the game, officials said.

"The City reminds fans and residents that using drones in public spaces in Chicago is illegal, and anyone caught using one will be arrested," an OEMC statement said.

Streets around the park were reopened to traffic about 1:30 a.m.

The World Series starts Tuesday in Cleveland and returns to Wrigley for Games 3 and 4 on Friday and Saturday. The Cubs will also host Game 5, if necessary, on Sunday. Gates open two hours before first pitch, scheduled for 7:08 p.m. each game.
