Officers Injured In Crash While Responding To Dan Ryan Shooting

(CBS) -- Two Chicago police officers were rushed to the hospital Wednesday after a crash that occurred while they responded to a fatal shooting on the Chinatown feeder ramp, authorities said.

Two civilian motorists were also injured in the wreck.

Chicago police and Illinois State Police searched the area along on the feeder ramp, looking for evidence near where shots were fired just after 5 p.m.

The shooting occurred at Cermak and the Dan Ryan, officials said. Two men were shot when a gunman got out of his vehicle on the Chinatown feeder ramp and opened fire on their vehicle, police said. One man was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Meanwhile, at 31st and Shields near Bridgeport, two officers responding to the incident got into a crash.

Witnesses say the police SUV had its lights on but ran a stop sign. The SUV struck a car, witness Sean Hedger tells CBS 2's Audrina Bigos.

The two officers were rushed to the hospital – one in good and one in serious condition. Two people in the other vehicle also were taken to the hospital.

At least one person was taken into custody in connection with the Dan Ryan shooting.
