Officer Injured Responding To South Side Battery

(STMW) -- A police officer was hurt while responding to a battery Monday afternoon in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

The officer was responding to a call of a battery in progress about 4:15 p.m. near the corner of West 52nd and South Paulina streets, police News Affairs officer Veejay Zala said.

The officer tried to intervene when he was injured by one of the people involved in the battery, Zala said.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and is in good condition, Zala said.

The person who allegedly injured the officer is in custody, Zala said.
