Off-Duty Officer And Daughter Shot; Grandchild Safe After Abduction

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An off-duty Chicago police officer and her daughter were shot, and the alleged gunman then abducted the officer's grandchild Tuesday night in the South Shore neighborhood.
Around 10 p.m., the officer's 21-year-old daughter and her daughter's boyfriend were involved in a domestic dispute in the 2200 block of East 68th Street.
The boyfriend then shot the 49-year-old officer and her daughter, and fled with his girlfriend's 2-year-old child, according to First Deputy Supt. Al Wysinger.
"During this incident, the officer was shot numerous times; in the face, neck, and in both forearms," he said.
It was the fourth time in just over a month that a Chicago police officer has been shot.
Police said the officer, a highly-decorated 24-year veteran of the force, was in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to Wysinger.
Her daughter was being treated at Northwestern for a gunshot wound to the thigh, Wysinger said. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The boyfriend was later found near the Cabrini Green public housing development, and was taken into custody. He has not yet been charged, and police were referring to him only as a "person of interest."
The couple's 2-year-old was "safe and sound," according to Wysinger.
