Off-Duty CPD Officer Injured By Suspected Drunk Driver On Dan Ryan

CHICAGO (CBS)-- An off-duty Chicago police officer was injured in a crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

According to Illinois State Police, the driver of the vehicle that struck Officer Jamie Gaeta's vehicle was arrested for DUI.

The incident took place at 79th Street just after 4 a.m. Sunday.

State police said Gaeta was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Gaeta, 51, is a 20-year member of the police force.

The back half of Gaeta's vehicle was smashed.

An Uber sticker was seen on the offender's vehicle, but an Uber representative was unable to confirm whether or not the driver was signed into the app when the collision occurred.

The offending driver stumbled when police asked him to walk in a straight line and was also unable to stand on one foot.
