Off-Duty Chicago Cop Chases Suspect After Gun Is Pulled At Park

(CBS) – A suspect who pulled a gun during a basketball game was taken into custody after an off-duty Chicago police officer gave chase and fired a weapon at him, authorities say.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. in the 2400 block of East 105th Street. The off-duty officer was playing basketball inside a gym at a park when a fight between two people erupted, Chicago police said.

A 28-year-old man allegedly took out a gun and pointed it. He fled, and the officer gave chase and fired one shot at the suspect, police said. The suspect ran into a residence in the 10300 block of South Crandon and announced he had been shot.

Police took the suspect into custody. He was taken to Trinity Hospital for shortness of breath.

The suspect's gun was recovered, police said. Charges were pending.
