Of All Things, A Butter Knife A Huge Hit On Kickstarter

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Is there anything worse than clumps of hard butter on your breakfast toast?

Well, of course there are.

However, it is pretty frustrating when butter from the refrigerator tears up the bread.

Or you have to sit there and wait for the butter to melt to make it spreadable.

An Australian company called DM Initiatives has developed a knife that it says solves this annoying issue.

The ButterUp knife features a built-in grater to aerate and soften butter, making it easy to spread.

The grater shape has been specifically designed for butter and to avoid sharp edges.

One would think such a device would have been developed by now.

And, for all we know, it has.

There is a battery operated, heated butter knife.

Although, based on the hugely popular response to the company's Kickstarter campaign, it just might be the first of its kind.

DM Initiatives has exceeded its fundraising goal by a multiple of three.

Contributors who donate $15 AUD ($13.98 in U.S. currency, plus about $6 in shipping) will receive a ButterUp knife in time for Christmas.
