Obama Expected To Attend Quinn Fundraiser Wednesday
CHICAGO (CBS) -- President Barack Obama was expected to fly home to Chicago on Wednesday, to help boost Gov. Pat Quinn's bid for re-election.
WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports Obama's popularity might be wavering nationally, but it's still pretty high in Illinois, and Quinn was welcoming the president's appearance at what's expected to be a campaign fundraiser on Wednesday.
"I'm looking forward to that," Quinn said. "I'm a good friend of President Obama, and he's a good friend of mine. He's helped me in the last election, and I really need his help now. I'm really grateful that he's coming our way."
Quinn is running against Republican businessman Bruce Rauner, who has had some high-profile campaign help of his own. Last week, Rauner campaigned with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has visited Illinois at least two other times to help Rauner, and funneled millions to Rauner's campaign from the Republican Governors' Association.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush also has helped Rauner, though they did not appear together in public during Bush's last visit earlier this month.
