EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) -- This weekend, the Northwestern women's lacrosse team begins its pursuit of a ninth national championship after last year's runner-up finish.

Led by pre-season All-American Madison Taylor, the Wildcats start the 20-25 campaign ranked No. 2 in the country.

With all-time leading scorer Izzy Scane gone, Head Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller basically has a brand-new team that is still loaded with talent.

"This is a whole new year. Obviously last year, we had a really, really veteran team come back, and I think having a whole new group is so exciting," Amonte Hiller said. "We are fortunate that some of the players are returning."

"Definitely been like helping everyone like learn the offense for sure, but like we're all going to help each other get better," added Taylor. "It's not just one person."

The Wildcats lacrosse team hosts Notre Dame on Friday in Evanston along the lakefront.
