Two Neighborhoods Rattled By Sex Assaults

(CBS) -- Fear for some Chicagoans is mounting after two women were sexually assaulted in the past week on Chicago's North Side.

CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports on the incidents, which occurred in Lakeview and Montclare.

Women walking in two Chicago neighborhoods are taking each step with more caution after two sexual assaults that happened a week ago Sunday.

Near West Fletcher and Paulina, police say a man tackled a woman and forced her into a hallway. It happened just before 2:30 a.m.

"We should always be on alert," teacher Erin Copeland says.

Nineteen hours later, around 9:30, there was another attack, about eight miles from the first one; the second occurred at West Belden and North Nordica.

Police say a sexual predator may have been watching his would-be victim before striking. He attacked from behind.

Police say the suspect punched the woman in the face, assaulted her, then ran, heading south on Nordica.

The suspects' descriptions differed in both attacks.

Jose Fernandez says he has already warned his 17-year-old daughter about the potential danger.
