21-Year-Old Man Shot While Driving, Crashes Into Tree And Lou Malnati's Restaurant In North Center

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A 21-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot while driving and crashing in North Center early Wednesday morning.

It was the third shooting involving gunfire between cars in the area since Sunday.

Police said the man was driving in the 4400 block of North Lincoln Avenue around 1:50 a.m., when someone in another car fired shots.

The 21-year-old was hit in the neck, causing him to crash into a tree, meter box and then the door of the Lou Malnati's pizzeria at 4340 N. Lincoln Ave.

When police arrived on the scene and tried to approach, the victim threw a gun and drugs on the ground and ran off.

Officers caught up with him and realized he had been shot in the neck.

The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.

No arrests have been made.

It is the third shooting in the area in the past four days.

On Monday, gunfire outside Lakeview High School.  CBS 2 has obtained surveillance video that shows more than two dozen shots fired.

A 16-year-old boy was killed in the shootout between two vehicles. 

On Sunday, a woman died after a crash that police said started with someone firing from a car barreling down busy Irving Park Road .
