Normal Service Resumes On CTA Pink And Green Lines After Man On Tracks

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Normal service has resumed on the Green and Pink Lines in the West Loop, after CTA trains were disrupted when an unauthorized man climbed on the elevated tracks early Tuesday.

Police spent about several hours negotiating with the man after he was seen running along the tracks on Lake Street between Aberdeen and Morgan streets around 2:30 a.m.

SWAT teams set up a large inflatable device under the tracks in case the man jumped or fell from the tracks.

The man eventually dropped onto the inflatable device, and was taken into custody, police said. He was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

While police were negotiating with the man, the CTA halted Green and Pink Line trains in the West Loop. Both lines begin service at 4 a.m. While the man was on the tracks, Green Line trains ran in two sections -- between Harlem/Lake and California, and between Clark/Lake and 63rd. Shuttle buses provided service between California and Clark/Lake. Pink Line trains ran only between 54th/Cermak and Polk, and then connected to Blue Line tracks at Racine for service to downtown.

The CTA said normal service resumed on both lines shortly before 8 a.m.
