Griffith High School Team Bus Overturns, Coach Airlifted To Hospital

UPDATED: 10:44 a.m. March 19, 2016

(CBS) — A school bus carrying a Northwest Indiana High School basketball team overturned after it was side-swiped by a woman who spilled her drink.

26 people, including students and coaches from the Griffith High School boys basketball team, were on board the bus. They were heading to a state semi-final game in Lafayette.

Police say a 23-year-old woman spilled a drink on herself, causing her to lose control and hit the bus. The boys team returned home Saturday night. They told CBS 2 it's a miracle everyone survived.

The team's coach had to be airlifted to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. All others injured have been released.

A community prayer service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at a local park.
