No Injuries In Fire At Near West Side Commercial Building

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A fire at a Near West Side commercial building was extinguished Thursday night after burning for at least two-and-a-half hours.

Firefighters responded to the four-story building near 14th Street and Western Avenue at 7:23 p.m., Fire Media spokesman Jeff Lyle said. The fire was found below the building's dock area.

Crews had cut a hole through the dock and dropped in foam to help control the fire because they could not physically go into the crawl space-like area, Lyle said. They also used distributor nozzles, which spray water in multiple directions.

The fire was extinguished by 10 p.m., according to Fire Media. No injuries were reported.

The cause was not known Thursday night.
