New Teacher Raps to Reach 4th Graders At Top Of School Year

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A local teacher wrote a rap song for his students, and recorded a music video to go along with it.

Now, it's going viral.

CBS2's Audrina Bigos reports how this teacher has set the bar high for others.

New to the classroom and new to the rap game is Dwayne Reed, 25.

"I actually don't have any music videos. This is my first one ever," he said.

He created a catchy rap song introducing himself to his new fourth grade students. He says keeping his kids interested in school inspired him to create the video.

"If I can get my kids on board, connecting with me before I even meet them. I've hit the jackpot," he says.

And Mr. Reed does this all while he's learning the ropes in his first classroom.

"Like I have zero idea what I'm doing," he said.

But he says he's focusing on hard work, respect and positivity.

"People love you. There's people who value you. There's people who affirm you and think you're worth something," Reed said. "And I want them to know that for eight hours a day, I'm that person. I'm that person that you mean something to."
