CHICAGO (CBS) -- Believe it or not, the new school year has started for many students, even though we're not even halfway through August.

WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports a number of school districts got started this week; among them, Mannheim District 83, Schiller Park District 81, and Rosemont District 78.

River Grove School District 85.5 was scheduled to start classes Wednesday.

River Grove Elementary School Principal Lisa Skelly said she's ready, and hopes her 670 students will be too.

Skelly said when she walks through a store and smells the school supplies, she gets excited about the potential a new school year holds.

Chicago Public Schools start the new school year the day after Labor Day.
