New Lenox Man Drowns In Wisconsin River

(STMW) -- A 49-year-old southwest suburban man drowned Friday in the Wisconsin River.

Someone called 911 to report that a man was in the river near Demynck Road in the town of Lodi and had gone underwater and not resurfaced at 1:41 p.m., according to a statement from the Columbia County sheriff's office.

Locals tried to rescue the man, but were unsuccessful, according to the statement.

Several agencies responded and three hours later, at 4:42 p.m., the body of New Lenox man Steven G. Michener was recovered from the river.

"The investigation will continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the drowning of the adult male," according to the statement.

No foul play is suspected.
