Negotiations To Resume Sunday Between McHenry High School Teachers, Board

Listen to Teachers Negotiations Resume Sunday

(CBS) -- Negotiating teams for striking teachers and the McHenry High School District 156 board of education will return to the bargaining table Sunday in search of a tentative agreement that will end the strike by the district's teachers.

The board's negotiating team said going in that it would meet with the union's team for 2 ½ hours on Friday, and it stuck to that.

Union spokesperson and English teacher Heidie Dunn said the atmosphere was "tense" at the beginning, but said the two sides exchanged ideas and that in the end, the board asked for time until Sunday to put together a new offer.

Dunn refused to give specifics of what was discussed, but said talks will resume at 1 p.m. Sunday at the board's administrative center and could go late.

The major issues are pay and the costs of insurance coverage. District 156 has posted on its home page visuals that say a teacher hired nine years ago has seen an average annual pay raise of 8.16 percent, and $18,000 toward continuing education.
