Near North Side Residents On Alert After Armed Robberies

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Neighbors in River North and the Near North Side are on edge after a pair of robberies at gunpoint.

CBS 2's Sandra Torres reports both incidents happened days apart but within blocks of each other, the most recent one took place in this 800 block of North Franklin.

It happened last Sunday late at night. Chicago Police say three men walked up to someone, pointed a gun to them and demanded their property.

About two weeks ago, a similar incident on the 100 block of West Oak with three men robbing another person at gunpoint.

Police say the description of the men is similar during both incidents. They are thought to be in their late teens, early twenties.

Folks who live in the area tell us, it's certainly something to be concerned about.

Micaela Harms, lives in the area

"It's kind of nerve-racking," she said. "I chose this neighborhood because I thought it would be safer, so it's a little freaky to hear stuff like that.

"I've always felt very safe in this area and in this neighborhood but still it is concerning and I would hate for something like that to happen to one of my neighbors," said Renee McCrery.
