Nate Jones Throws Scoreless Inning In Cactus League Debut

By Bruce Levine

GLENDALE, Ariz. (CBS) -- Closer Nate Jones pitched a scoreless inning of relief in his spring training debut on Saturday. Jones was limited to side sessions up until Saturday due to a strain in his upper leg that was incurred on February 15.

Jones gave up a double and a walk to the first two hitters he faced before getting a double play ball to work out of the jam.

"I didn't want to get in that jam," he said. "It happened but I got to work out a bit and get the blood flowing."

Jones is penciled in to replace Addison Reed as the teams closer. He was the Sox primary set-up man in 2013.

"Everything felt good and everything was normal," Jones said. "I am now ready to get going."

Jones is scheduled for a day off and than set to pitch again in Cactus league play.
