Movement Grows To Delay, Or Move, Brazil 2016 Olympics

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Stop the Olympics?

One health expert wants that to happen, to slow the spread of the Zika virus, CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports.

Rio topped Chicago and two other cities for the 2016 Games, but now these Olympics seem plagued, with only a worsening forecast.

"The Olympics ought to be postponed, or moved, not canceled," said Dr. Amir Attarean.

He said Rio is the epicenter of the brain-damaging Zika virus. Bringing 500,000 visitors to Brazil would only increase the risk of spreading the virus further worldwide.

Brazil is also plagued by corruption--the country is in the process of impeaching its president.

And crime--just this week soccer star Rivaldo, citing violence, told people--don't come.

Former Ald. Bob Fioretti was a leading cheerleader for Chicago 2016.

"I wish we would have had the Olympics," he said. "I think we would have been better prepared."

The International Olympic Committee has said everything is fine in Brazil.
