Motorist Takes Wrong Turn Into Bridgeview Shop, Then Drives Off

(CBS) – A Bridgeview shop will be closed for several days, after an elderly driver crashed into a couple of storefronts before casually backing out and driving away.

The incident happened early Thursday at Prince Sweets & Bakery.

Workers have made a lot of progress in the day since the driver of an SUV took a slow and seemingly deliberate right turn into the sweet shop and the salon next door.

Mohanad Abo Ras says police called him to say the front of his business and much of the inside was destroyed.

He says he'll be closed for at least a week.

The driver, in his 70s, later turned himself in to Bridgeview police. A sergeant says the motorist was disoriented and confused.

The driver has been cited for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

The accident happened around 7 a.m. when the businesses were not open.
