Motorcycle Riders Honoring Memory Of Lt. Joe Gliniewicz With "Rose Ride" From Indiana To Fox Lake
(CBS) --About 150 motorcyclists were expected to join a ride from Indiana to Fox Lake today in honor of fallen Fox Lake Police Lt. Joe Gliniewicz.
Members of the Unforgotten Souls Motorcycle Club, made up police officers, firefighters and members of the military, gathered in the rain just off I-94 in Highland, Indiana, before setting off on what they call a "Rose Ride."
Tom Lloyd is the national president and founder of the club. He said each rider was carrying a rose.
"Rose Ride is what we do to honor the officers, firefighters, EMT's, anybody who's killed in the line of duty. It's the type of ride we put together to show our honor for them and let them know they're not going to be forgotten."
He said the family was overwhelmed to hear about the ride.
"Its about getting everybody together and letting them know your life wasn't a waste. You meant something to us. Its getting people out there and giving back to the community."
They were expecting to pick up riders along the roughly 2-hour route to Fox Lake.
The roses would be placed at the memorial for the fallen officer and the cash donations were for his family.
