Mother Still Questions Police Shooting Her Son In Highland Park Hospital

(CBS) -- A mother still has some big questions the day after Highland Park released video of police fatally shooting her son in a hospital.

On November 3, 27-year-old Christopher Anderson was taken to Highland Park Hospital with his daughter following a traffic accident. Police say Anderson drew a gun after refusing to put on a hospital gown.

Tuesday, Highland Park released video of the shooting and a statement that said the video showed the shooting was justified.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards spoke with Anderson's mother.

"I don't see where the video proves anything that my son pointed a gun at police," said Venus Anderson.

The family wonders how he went from accident victim in the hospital to alleged hostile gun-pulling assailant in less than an hour.

Police fired nine shots in 1.7 seconds. Highland Park's statement Tuesday said, "The officers fired until the immediate threat was over."

More than, two weeks later, Anderson's mother says he has not been buried yet.

"My son today is still above ground because we don't have money to bury him at the cemetery," said Venus Anderson.

Authorities concluded in their report that "the officer's actions were reasonable and appropriate."

The family is looking at the potential of legal action.
