Mother Speaks Out After Teen Daughter Killed In Drive-By Shooting
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A young life ends in a flash of gunfire. Police say 16-year-old Shaquise Buckner was killed in a drive-by shooting.
CBS 2's Chris Martinez reports witnesses describe hearing more than a dozen shots in the drive-by and the mother of the young victim has a message for her daughter's killer.
Katrina Goodwin could barely bring herself to talk about her little girl. She says Shaquise Buckner was a happy teen with a sharp focus on her future.
"She's been on the honor roll since she's been in high school every semester. She was supposed to start school on the 19th," Goodwin said.
Instead, her family is planning her funeral. The 16-year-old was killed just blocks from her home early Saturday morning. As she walked with a friend - who neighbors believe may have been the intended target. He was wounded and Shaquise was shot in the head.
The bullets were fired just outside Donna Hill's home, where one candle burning at the very spot where police found the girl's body.
"And she laid there for hours, y'know, before they even covered her up," Hill said.
That image only added to a mother's pain. Her message - to whoever pulled the trigger - simply this: "Please come forward. She didn't deserve this."
Katrina told Chris Martinez her daughter wanted to have a career in forensic science because she loved watching the show CSI. There is a reward being offered: $1,000 for any information leading to an arrest.
